How to use this calculator

Your current grade is the average of work already completed, excluding the final. For example, enter 80 if your completed assignments average 80%, even if those assignments are only 60% of the course. Do not enter their already-weighted contribution of 48.

The formula

Required final = (target − current × (1 − final weight ÷ 100)) ÷ (final weight ÷ 100). If final weight is 100%, required final = target.

A worked example

With a current average of 80%, an overall target of 85%, and a final worth 40%, the completed-work contribution is 80 × 0.6 = 48. You need (85 − 48) ÷ 0.4 = 92.5% on the final.

What to keep in mind

  • Current and target grades use a 0–100 percentage scale. The final weight must be greater than 0% and at most 100%.
  • A result below zero is shown as calculated and means a zero final already reaches the target. A result above 100% is shown and explained as unattainable with a maximum score of 100%.
  • A final weighted at 100% ignores the current grade. No school-specific letter-grade or rounding rules are assumed.
